Noviembre 2
2023
Noviembre 2 is an immersive and participatory performance that weaves together the vibrant elements of Mexican tradition, personal remembrance, and collective ritual. An opportunity to mourn and celebrates individual’s lives. A moment to contemplate the body in stillness, vulnerable, free. As Mexico’s ritual offers an opportunity to heal, it is important to consider and ponder the number of unnecessary death of youth in hands of a violent narco state and also femincides of women in hands of their lovers. In this occasion, a femme body lies on a coffin like structure, naked. Participants and observers are invited to embark on a journey during Día de Muertos by pouring melted wax on a body lying still. The cempasuchil flower, symbolic of guiding spirits, present in the space, enhance the experience with its vivid colors and fragrant aura. Through the solemn collaborative performance of a shared altar of remembrance, it cultivates a profound sense of unity. In this ceremonial space, both the departed and the living are celebrated and invited to ponder about life’s fragility, through an experience that transcends time. It is an emotionally charged, an experience where art and culture meld to honor those who have passed, reminding us of the enduring connections between us all.
