Fénix
2024

A Performance by Arantxa Araujo in collaboration with Mariana Uribe

Fénix is a durational performance by Arantxa Araujo that submerges the audience on a symbolic journey, exploring resilience amidst the challenges of existence. What unfolds is a series of repetitive actions that encapsulate the cycle of birth, life, and death, revealing much about the complexity of survival. Beginning with a potent ritual, Araujo submerges her body in a glass coffin filled with molten wax. Upon emerging, they experience a palpable transformation; part of the liquid turns into their new skin, marking a triumphant rebirth. This skin evolves into a restrictive element, forcing Araujo to shed their skin. Through this action, Araujo emerges from the wax, manifesting a rebirth reminiscent of the myth of the phoenix. The repetition of this ritual leaves behind many remains, helping us reflect on the ephemeral nature of existence and change. Music from Mariana Uribe and the aroma of copal allow for introspection, making Fénix a powerful testimony of human resilience and the eternal renovation that surges from the ashes of the past.
